Back Pain Relief
If you’ve ever had back pain — one of the most common medical problems, which affects 8 out of 10 people at some time during their lives — then you probably already know how debilitating and frustrating this can be.
Back pain symptoms can vary anywhere from a constant, dull muscle ache… to a sudden, intense pain… to limited mobility and/or flexibility.
Acute back pain develops suddenly and typically persists from a few days to several weeks. If back pain lasts for more than three months, it is called chronic.
Back pain is not a diagnosis — instead, it’s a symptom of an underlying problem.
Most acute back pain is caused by trauma to the lower back, or a disorder such as arthritis.
Pain caused by trauma may be from a sports injury, work around the house or in the garden, or a sudden jolt such as a car accident or other stress on spinal bones and tissues.
Common back pain problems include disc herniation, nerve problems, osteoarthritis, and muscular problems. Other possible causes can be pregnancy, epidurals and fibromyalgia, to name just a few.
Finding Back Pain Relief
The majority of people with chronic back, leg, neck, and shoulder pain have:
- suffered for more than 2 months;
- seen multiple physicians;
- tried many different treatments;
- had only partial or short-term relief.
In fact, most of our back pain patients have suffered pain for many years before treatment at one of our centers. We discovered that many people tried to find solutions to their pain and discomfort, but give up when their initial treatments were ineffective. Many others just didn’t know what step to take next.
Sometimes, back pain tends to get better and go away on its own, although it can take quite some time. Taking over-the-counter pain relievers and resting can help short-term — but these should never be substituted for long-term back pain remedies.
Staying in bed for more than 1 or 2 days can actually make the pain worse.
And although taking medications and pain-relievers may help to relieve the pain enough to enable you to relax and heal, they should not be used for longer periods of time… Since they do not address the root cause of your back pain.
If your back pain is severe or doesn’t improve after three days, you should call your health care provider. Additionally, if your back pain was caused by an injury, you should also seek medical advice… the sooner, the better.
